The funny thing when you do a blind tasting is that you go into the notes completely unbiased. And yet as soon as I tried this whisky I thought it was a Mortlach, and I kept finding those meaty notes I always love in a good Mortlach, but as it turned out there was a Mortlach in the line-up… but it wasn’t this Hogshead Speyside 15.
Then again… it still could be. This is a Secrect Speyside after all. But seeing as there’s already another Mortlach in the line-up it seems unlikely. And tasting them side-by-side the experience was vastly different as well! As you’ll see from my Hogshead Speyside 15 tasting notes!

Nose:
Grilled pineapple chunks, with brown sugar and plenty of vanilla. Balanced out beautifully with notes of sandalwood, pine resin and old cigar boxes. There’s a stunning balance of aromas here!
Palate:
What it delivered on the nose, it delivers on the palate but with a bit of extra bite and punch. Heavy molasses, burning oak shavings, charred honey drizzeled bacon bits. Honey soaked liquorice root. The list goes on and on, this is absolutely stunning!
Finish:
Medium long with those lovely sweet and savoury notes lingering beautifully. Crispy bacon, molasses, burnt caramel and crushed vanilla pods provide for a beautiful array of flavours in the finish.
